Overview:

This position is responsible for maintaining plant’s Powder Metal manufacturing equipment and facility utilities, troubleshooting faulty devices/systems as well as performing regularly scheduled maintenance on all manufacturing equipment.  The Factory Automation Technician/ PLC Technician role requires proficiency and thorough understanding of various factory automation systems including but not limited to, mechanical systems, electrical, PLC troubleshooting and controls systems, FactoryTalk HMI, Robotics machinery, Automation Vision Systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems of equipment in a manufacturing plant.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspects existing automated equipment and assesses performance in relation to standards.
  • Troubleshoot ladder logic for PLC’s and modify HMI interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot issues and insufficiencies in performance and guides or performs adjustments.
  • Advises management regarding equipment performance, and suggestions for equipment and process improvements.
  • Confers with vendors, supervisors, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Enters information into computer to copy program or to draw, modify, or store schematics, applying knowledge of software package used.
  • Assists with implementation and/or monitoring of SOP’s and ensures staff are trained to standards.
  • Converses with equipment operators to ascertain whether mechanical or human error contributed to equipment breakdown.
  • Studies blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures.
  • Operates equipment to demonstrate the use of equipment and to analyze malfunctions.
  • Determines feasibility of using standardized equipment and develops specifications for equipment required to perform additional functions.
  • Acquires working knowledge of PLEX or other Maintenance program / planning software
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs various production equipment systems and devices and performs regular preventive maintenance as planned.
  • Assist Team Leaders and line Operators in efficient start up and equipment adjustments. Assist other maintenance department staff with technical troubleshooting.
  • Performs high quality work that meets industry accepted maintenance practices to maintain compliance with external regulatory agencies.
  • Troubleshoot Automation and Robotics machinery
  • Continues to develop maintenance technical skills within mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding and fabrication skillset.
  • Work safely and promote a safe work environment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience with industrial automation and Allen Bradley  PLC and control center troubleshooting and repair. Skills with ladder logic
  • Ability to adapt current PLC systems to changing plant needs.
  • Experience with FactoryTalk View HMI configuration and modification (or any other HMI interface brands)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer 5 years’ experience with industrial automation, PLC, and control systems troubleshooting.
  • Robotic experience would be preferred (Fanuc, ABB, Denso )
  • Knowledge or experience with Industrial Automation Vision Systems (Keyence, Cognex, or any would be preferred)
  • One year certificate in maintenance related field from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to climb or balance.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • The employee moves objects:  regularly up to 5 pounds  //  frequently up to 25 pounds  //  occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include near/close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors of electrical wires or components.
