Location:  Hartford, CT area

Day shift:

  • Wed, Thurs + Friday:  8-9 hr day shift (flexible day hours)
  • Sat  12 hour shift 5am-5pm   –    (off Sun, Mon, Tues)

Job Description:

The Sanitation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all sanitation activities to ensure the facility consistently meets food safety, regulatory, and company standards. This includes: ovens, conveyor systems, fryers, mixers, packing equipment – must ensure they pass daily swab testing and food safety standards. This role manages the sanitation team, schedules cleaning tasks, verifies proper use of chemicals and equipment, and maintains compliance with GMP, FDA, USDA, SQF, and other applicable guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, train, and support the sanitation team, ensuring proper cleaning procedures and safety protocols are followed.
  • Develop and maintain sanitation schedules for daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of production areas, equipment, and common spaces.
  • Meet daily and/or preventative sanitation schedules and emergency needs
  • Perform visual inspections and swabbing as required by the job
  • Perform daily and in-depth cleaning of all machinery, equipment and building structure.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, including GMPs, HACCP, SQF, FDA, and OSHA standards.
  • Monitor sanitation processes and complete pre-operational inspections before production runs.
  • Oversee proper handling, storage, and usage of cleaning chemicals; maintain accurate documentation of MSDS/SDS.
  • Investigate sanitation-related issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance teams to coordinate sanitation without disrupting operations.
  • Maintain detailed sanitation records, including cleaning logs, chemical usage, and audit documentation.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external audits.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the sanitation team..

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • 1–2 years of supervisory/leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, SQF, FDA, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to train, motivate, and hold team members accountable.
  • Must be able to speak and communication in both English and Spanish
  • Must be to supervise a team + effectively work with other department heads with regards to scheduling
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Comfortable working in wet/cold environments and around cleaning chemicals.
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, sanitation/QA record-keeping systems).
  • Able to use ladders or portable stairs, safety harnesses, water and air hoses, hand tools, power tools, housekeeping equipment, cleaning chemicals and sanitizer dilutions as needed. – no physical limitation or concerns
